DRY EYE TREATMENT IN SEATTLE
You may have experienced symptoms such redness, burning, irritation, excessive tearing, gritty or scratchy foreign body sensations, difficulty wearing contact lenses, blurred or inconsistent vision. You may have dry eye, a condition in which the eyes do not produce enough quality tears. This condition becomes more common as we age and can be caused by the environment, medications such as antihistamines and oral contraceptives or autoimmune diseases like arthritis and Sjogren’s syndrome.
DRY EYE TREATMENT
Artificial tears, which lubricate the eyes, are the most common dry eye treatment. They are available over-the-counter as eye drops. You may also use sterile ointments sometimes at night to help prevent the eyes from drying. Some people also find comfort in using humidifiers, wearing wrap-around glasses outdoors and avoiding windy and dry conditions.
The first prescription medication for dry eye, Restasis™, is now available for certain types. For people with more severe cases, temporary or permanent closure of the tear ducts (small openings at the inner corner of the eyelid where tears drain from the eye) may also be a helpful dry eye treatment.
